Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral, however, we suggest you obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) through the Better Access Initiative. This is one of the most affordable ways to access psychological services.
How can I get a Mental Health Care Plan?
A Mental Health Care Plan can be provided by a General Practitioner (GP), Psychiatrist or a Paediatrician. This allows you to receive 10 individual sessions in a calendar year (1 January to 31 December).
What do I need for my sessions?
For telehealth sessions, you will need to have access to a computer or smart device that has a camera. Your internet connection should also be reliable.
What can I expect in my first session?
In the first session, the therapist will ask you questions to get to know you better and gain an understanding what is going on for you. It also provides the opportunity to ask the therapist any questions you might have. Towards the end of the session, you will explore therapy goals and discuss what you hope to achieve in therapy.
How many sessions will I need?
There is “no one size fits all approach”. Some people might engage in therapy for a short period of time, whilst others may engage in therapy for a longer period of time.
Sessions are usually held either weekly or fortnightly. As you begin to feel better, sessions may then occur monthly.
How long do sessions normally go for?
Sessions range from 50-60 minutes.
What type of presentations do you normally see?
We tend to see people with the following:
Anxiety
Depression
Emotional dysregulation
Life transitions
Low mood
Low self-esteem and confidence
Relationship difficulties
School related difficulties
Stress.
